7 weeks until Movement D.E.M.F. and our unveiling of the Blank Artists store but who is counting? Our pals at Blank have gotten deep into the hype and created this nice banner last week to commemorate the occasion. We took some time out to chat with our fellow Seattle resident hip hop producer B-Girl about getting into the hip hop game and what lead to her first release Love or Fate. As always our favorites round out the list.

This weeks free download is from Josh Cummings. This is the first vinyl release by Blank Artists. You can hear the Morodor influence on it. In recent conversations with the Blank office I know these guys are feeling this kinda groove pretty hard and the news from the 08 WMC was that most of the other raging D.J.'s and party people are too.

DJ B-Girl
Mia B. aka. DJ B-Girl was wowed the first time she took notice to dance music back in 1992. She saw the music visually in layers. Where the hi-hats, hand claps,and kicks flowed with synth lines and sometimes vocals or raps. This lead her to DJ'ing Drum and Bass in an attempt to to create a community and break through barriers that speaking couldn't. Disappointed that her voice was being lost with merely scratching and mixing others music lead her to to recording sounds and completing a degree in audio engineering and recording. Now as the Label Manager for Urban and Hip Hop music at Oseao Media Group she is on the pulse of the current hip hop scenes heartbeat. Being able to constantly hear new sounds allows her to not be trapped into any particular style. Around 2004 she put all of her focus into hip hop where she felt her eclectic vision fit best with her engineering and lyrical talents. B-Girl feels Love Or Fate has captured about 60% of what she is capable of showcasing the best of her battle beats, underground hip hop and experimental sounds. By continuing to evolve and grow and simultaneously narrow down and minimize her media file obsession the next release will contain a more singular focus. After her day ends at Oseao she spends the evenings writing at least a track a week and can't have enough notebooks for the overflowing words in her head. This will provide another outlet besides the boxes of spiral notebooks and ghost writing lyrics for area rappers. Finding peace with her own voice is still a work in progress on many levels as she is entertained when other people use here lyrics.
