Sean Sanders is a member of Groove Media group and owner manager of Prosthetic Pressings. He's always keeping his eyes to the horizon to find quality music that makes him want to move, stuff that he can feel. Sean was kind enough to take some time to chat with me about how he came to be where he is and what the goals are for his slamming label.
NECODO: I understand you have some motivation and help with this label, can you tell me about that?
Sean: My label mate is Marko Peraica I wouldn't be talking to you if it wasn't for him.
NECODO: Damn, big props to Marko, how did you two get this thing going?
Sean: Well first off I was at school at WMC and Marko Peraica was one of my buddies growing up still living in Chicago. He came to visit me and saw how I was living, which was basically just partying and acting like a fool everyday. I had all these ambitions to do something creative for print design in the music industry, but couldn't get the balls/energy to do anything. He called me a loser and that I had wasted my talents. Being the competitive person that I am I proved him wrong. I started designing flyers for clubs and then that triggered me to do shows which helped me to contact people of all types of calibers. Marko was still living in Chicago doing DNB with MIA crew and Combat Records, while I was doing house and techno nights in Michigan...

This was selected by Sean Horton aka Nordic Soul / INCITE! - DJ, Producer, Founding Director and Curator of the Decibel Festival. Watch out for his star to continue to rise. He recently wiped the minds of the "Bonkers!" event in Seattle at the Peloton Musique release party. More that just a moniker, the name Nordic Soul describes Horton's production aesthetic, which fuses the soulful sounds of Detroit's urban landscape (Horton's upbringing) with the ethereal textures and melodies associated with Northern Europe (Horton's heritage). Known as "the busiest man in Seattle techno," Nordic Soul is a key member of the growing U.S. electronic music scene and clearly here to stay.
Fortuitously, Horton's DJing and production skills match his organizational prowess. The Detroit native's nuanced takes on all styles of techno, dub, hip hop, electro pop, and ambient has enabled him to open for luminaries like Trentemoller, Derrick May, Plaid, Boys Noize, Four Tet, Green Velvet, Monolake, Funkstorung, Cobblestone Jazz, Thomas Fehlmann, Bassnectar, Modeselektor, Murcof, John Tejada, Deadbeat, T. Raumschmiere and Bruno Pronsato. Visit myspace.com/nordicsoul for tracks, DJ mixes and info.
Keep an ear out for Nordic Soul as he opens for Apparat on Friday May 23rd in Seattle, performs at the closing night DEMF after party at Oslo in Detroit May 26th and then heads to a panel at this year's Mutek in Montreal. In June he returns to Seattle where he'll be performing live with Radio Slave June 4th and DJs with Moby on June 8th.
Swingin' techno from the always-quality Blank Artists. Gibson's Revenge kicks off with a delayed percussive synth line before dropping the beat - then develops with vocal samples + synth stabs. The Keith Kemp remix is a little dubbier, opting for more textural developments. Captain's Theme is a shuffly techno track driven by a live bass sample and percussion switches. Both VFD tracks are remarkably short for dancefloor fodder, the remix is a bit longer. Recommended. Matt Abbott is Vacuum From Detroit. Get Captains Theme here - (download 320kbpsMP3)
